Welcome to the Glenelg Goes Green web page!

On this page there is information about the plans, goals and successes of the Go Green Group. The latest success of the group is the smooth running of national tree day. Another decision of the Go Green Group is that in terms 1 and 4 on Thursdays the whole school will be turning off the lights in their class rooms and other rooms to save electricity. Even this webpage is a goal of the group but that will never be finished because we will always be adding more.

We have split the team into five categories to work on different goals in smaller groups. The different Groups are; Electricity (Jake and Jono), Plants and Compost (Nicola, Dana and Brooke), Water (Tay and Salome) Challenges (Hayley and Taylor) and Webpage (Austin and Robert with Jono as the technical advisor).

We are thinking about hosting a Go Green Day where students dress up in green to raise money to buy rain water tanks and other things.

The Energy group are going to be looking at getting the school solar panels.

The Water group are planning to get rain water tanks for the school.

The Challenges group are in charge of all the challenges for the Go Green Group.

Plants and Compost group are looking at how other schools are using compost bins and worm farms to recycle waste and improve the garden areas around the school.

Lastly the Webpage group are taking care of this page.

National tree day was very successful. We had Toyota, Trees for life, Channel 7 and two of the Crows players  turn up to help plant trees and be an inspiration to all the kids. We had separate groups that went with the guests and some planted trees around the school and some planted seeds in little cardboard containers. We are all looking forward to when the trees have grown and make the school look even better then it looks now. The main people we have to thank are of course our sponsors for tree day and Michelle, Julie, Lyn and Paul.
