Funtastics Coordination Program at Glenelg (updated 7-5-08) WHAT IS IT? The program is a course of activities designed to assist the development of gross motor skills in Reception to Year 2 students. It was written by the South Australian Physical Education Branch for students who need support with coordination. All reception students are pretested to determine if they would benefit joining the program long or short term. BENEFITS This fun and energetic program ensures that all students are skilled to participate and be successful in class based PE programs, schoolyard games and general junior sports. Along with the obvious benefits to coordination, balance and strength the children are expected to improve in; concentration, understanding of spatial concepts, listening skills, self confidence and social skills. HOW IT WORKS AT GLENELG We conduct 3 x 20 minute sessions per week run by myself or Tracy Hunt (SSO) assisted by either adult volunteer helpers or senior students from year 5, 6 or 7. Funtastics provides the extra benefit of cross age peer tutoring and relationship building. Funtastic continues to be another quality program offered here at Glenelg School.
