& Well Being)
My role is the Student Engagement and Wellbeing Coordinator. I work with staff and students to provide and sustain effective programmes that enable us to develop best practice for all students. I work to create and implement student wellbeing initiatives so that students develop pro-social skills and are engaged in their learning experiences. When students have skills in being resilient, confident, persistent, organised and can get along and work with others; they are more likely to achieve optimum learning outcomes and achieve their personal best.
In my role I have continued to find new ways to continue our journey as a ‘You Can Do It’ school. We explicitly teach the Habits of the Mind and help students to identify their positive and negative mindsets so that they can develop a sense of personal responsibility for their behaviour and ultimately achieve success in their learning. I have created a three phase intervention play programme for our junior primary students. This was designed to develop positive social skills and the building of friendships during play periods. The programme provides opportunities for our senior students to become mentors and develop leadership skills by working with younger students. I also organise Fun Lunch activities which again, provide opportunity for senior leadership amongst our students. I promote and model student voice and use Circle time as a vehicle for inviting all students to participate in sharing their ideas and opinions. My passion is to ensure that every student feels valued and can embark on a life-long learning journey that is fun and personally rewarding.
Strong emphasis on the constructing of student learning based on individual needs.
Highlights have been the development of small schools and their impact on communities, SAPSASA sports, Crows Success in AFL and their development program for schools. The reverse sea-change from the country back to the city, and the opportunity of working with and enthusiastic and professional staff. Email
excellence and for working closely with the community.
My passion is in the area of student participation in all decision making that affects them.
This may be in decisions about the grounds and facilities, it may be in organising special functions and it should certainly be in negotiating and developing a stimulating and engaging curriculum.
Students need to be actively involved in the learning program and to assist in planning assessment tasks and the criteria for that assessment.
I look forward to the task of continuing the great work of Glenelg Primary and to further enriching the learning program in conjunction with the staff. Email
